I don't usually say much abt sexual headcanons cause it means very little but I will say I do believe sub Jonah is ooc. I just cannot believe someone whose desire for control extennds to the extreme that he lets every living creature on earth suffer would just be fine and dandy handing that control over in a sexual situation. Frankly I don't think he could want that or even trust anyone that much

exactly! no way would Jonah hand over control to someone else (especially someone like Peter Lukas. he doesn't trust anyone. and he can't risk Jon knowing too much. he also wouldn't trust Jon either, he isn't stupid). dom/dom jonelias is so delicious even tho I am leaning sub!Jon most of the time. Also, I love the phrasing of the innocuous "a difficult man to pin down". It's intriguing. It's sexy. It's homoerotic. And, babygirl, you had no idea how right you were.

To me, Jonah does not care enough to control Jon outside of what he needs him to do. His need for control is not gratuitous to me; he clearly did not care to keep Gertrude (for example) under his thumb aside from disposing of her when she tried to interfere. He likes to hold things over people but he doesn't care about the minutiae. He's perfectly happy to lean back and watch Jon stumble and fall and pick himself up on his own. It's telling that several of his Marks resulted from his own choices rather than Jonah arranging them ('you should have seen my face when you voluntarily went to him').

Like, I don't think he'd be controlling on an interpersonal level, and not because he is good or has a deep respect for personhood, but simply because he doesn't have to. Similarly, and this is partly the Jonelias soulmatist in me talking, he doesn't need to change who Jon is at his core, so he won't force it. He wants Jon to be someone whose choices (and he wasn't lying when he said that choices made blindly count) lead him to the ritual, and he also wants Jon to be like him, and Jon is both of those things already.

I remember seeing a crazy take that claimed Jonah doesn't understand himself + by extension the world because he watches instead of seeing (contrasted with Jon/Martin, which is not a pair you want to put as an example of mutual understanding, IMO) and is too alone to have another person to see himself in. And, like, I have talked about the possibility of him having a fucked sense of identity, what with the body-hopping, the immortality, and the shaping of his life around a singular goal, but the post was weirdly judgemental about it. As if people who can't connect with others suddenly weren't human.

But also, leaving aside my feelings on the matter, it's canonically untrue. Jonah literally understands people; otherwise, he wouldn't be able to manipulate and coerce them. Even if you chalk that up to the Beholding, he still views people as people; he and Gertrude respected each other enough to not use their powers on each other, and he clearly takes pleasure in guiding Jon through his becoming.

It just feels like it's placing a moral or, god forbid, humanising weight on loving and being loved, as if the point where Jonah went wrong (as in #cringefailed) was when he failed to connect with others. And I guess MAG 159 does lend itself to the "love saves you always" interpretation if you're looking for it.

"Ooh, Jonah isn't human because he's so cold and isolated." Many people you talk to every day are cold and isolated. OP. What does human even mean? He still bleeds, he can still die, and his will is still his own, mostly.

The paranoia. The determination to apply rationality to something unknowable. The need to know. Them drinking their coffee the same way. Them keeping bones in their offices. Pushing away their connections. The way they instinctively get what the other is saying. The fear of being puppeteered around. Them being both nerds and old men at heart. The fact that their names are similar. And it was all unintentional.

The whole podcast is about Jonah and Jon spinning into each other's orbits until they form a binary unit together. There would be no king of a ruined world without the archive and vice versa. They are irrevocably bound together. The one thing the finale got right is that they die minutes apart from each other and by the same blade.
